Information We Collect

We may collect information you provide directly when you create an account or use the platform, such as your name, username, email address, hashed password, profile photo, cover photo, job title, company name, country or city, and other professional information you choose to add to your profile.

We also collect content you create inside the service, including posts, images, comments, reactions, private messages, friend requests, notifications, professional pages, and account or page verification submissions when you choose to send them.

We may collect technical and operational data such as IP address, device or browser type, log files, notification identifiers, FCM tokens, basic performance data, and usage data needed to secure the platform, improve performance, and detect abuse or failures.

2

Permissions and Feature-Specific Data

The app or browser may request access to your photos or camera when you choose to upload a profile image, cover photo, post image, message attachment, or verification document. We do not access photos or camera data unless you choose to use that feature.

The app may request notification permission so it can send alerts for messages, reactions, friend requests, and other updates. You can disable notifications from your device settings or account settings when available.

We may use approximate location inferred from IP address to choose language or improve general experience, and some features may request geolocation permission when you choose to use a location-based feature. We do not use precise location unless you grant permission and intentionally use that feature.

If you use audio or chat features that require microphone access, the app may request microphone permission only while you use that functionality.

3

How We Use Your Information

  • To create accounts, operate the service, and provide core platform features.
  • To display your profile, content, and connections according to your privacy settings.
  • To enable private messaging, professional networking, and in-app or push notifications.
  • To review verification requests, prevent fraud, detect abuse, and enforce our terms.
  • To improve quality, performance, stability, and security, and measure general usage.
  • To send essential service messages such as email verification, security alerts, or notifications you choose to receive.
4

Legal Basis for Processing

We process data when necessary to provide the service to you, based on your consent for optional permissions or settings, for legitimate interests such as security, fraud prevention, and service improvement, or when processing is required by law.

5

When We Share Information

We do not sell your personal data. We may share information in the following cases: with other users based on what you publish and your privacy settings, with service providers that support hosting, storage, analytics, security, email, or notifications, or with legal authorities when required by law.

Third-party providers or technical infrastructure we use may include hosting providers, Google Analytics, Google reCAPTCHA, Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM), OneSignal, or similar services when needed to operate the platform or deliver notifications.

6

Public Content and Privacy Controls

Some profile information, posts, or pages may be public or visible to other users depending on your settings. Please avoid publishing information you do not want others to see. You can adjust privacy settings such as account visibility, who can message you, and default post privacy in your account settings.

7

Data Retention

We retain your data while your account is active or as long as needed for operational or legal reasons. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify associated data as permitted by law and technical constraints, while some records may be retained for a limited period for legal, security, or anti-fraud purposes.

8

Account Deletion and Data Deletion Requests

You can permanently delete your account from inside the platform through Settings > Privacy > Delete Account. Doing so closes the account and removes associated data subject to the retention rules described above. If you need additional help with data deletion, you may contact us using the email address listed on this page.

9

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect data from unauthorized access, alteration, loss, or misuse. However, no internet transmission or electronic storage method is 100% secure, so absolute security cannot be guaranteed.

10

Children's Privacy

This service is not directed to children. We do not knowingly allow accounts from children under the age permitted by applicable law in their region. If we learn that we collected data from a child in a manner that does not comply with applicable law, we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

11

International Data Transfers

Because Steel Platform serves a global professional community, data may be processed or stored in different countries by service providers or cloud infrastructure used to operate the platform. We work to apply reasonable safeguards where required.
